Our Story [who we are]
From the very beginning, the ministry of Church of Pentecost has been based on the faithfulness of God’s people.
In March of 1984, Pastors Rick and Alexa Olson moved to Jacksonville with their young son, Aaron, with not much more than a burden for the people of Jacksonville and a vision for the future of a great work for the Kingdom of God. They were able to rent a small building on Beach Blvd. and within a few short years outgrew it.
In 1987, God began to move on Pastor Olson’s heart to build a new building to support the growth, and we were able to acquire a small piece of land that would eventually become the home of Fred Olson Center. We then needed money to get the land cleared and to lay the foundation. Through the sacrificial giving of God’s people and many fundraisers, we were able to raise the money. Soon after we had a flea market sale and were able to start the framing. Then, in February of 1989, God opened a door for them to get a loan for $125,000 to finish the building. In just 11 years, on August 4, 2000, God helped them pay off that loan.
The church family had begun to grow, and classrooms began to fill to capacity. God, again, called on Pastor to start preparing for a new building. The vision from God came in the form of the “10K Fund” which began in 2000. God asked each family to give $10,000 toward the future building. Through the faithfulness of God’s people and many miracles, over $1,000,000 was raised over the next few years.
Using the 10K Fund and a loan for $1.5 million we were able to build the Family Life Center. The new building has 18 classrooms, seating for 550 people as well as a much needed office wing.
The $1.5 million dollar mortgage has already been reduced to $1.1 million. The loan is structured into to two separate loans. The first loan is approximately $700K. This loan is a balloon note that will come due in 2 years. We must have it paid off or refinance it at that time. The second loan, approximately $400K, is a traditional loan with a 20 year term. If we continue at our current pace the loans will be paid off in 2038 (if we refinance the balloon mortgage for 20 years to maturity).
Our plan is simple. Through the Pressing on to God's Future Campaign we will pay off the current mortgages in three years or less. Together we will give sacrificially of our time, talent and treasure to accomplish the vision that God has given Pastor Olson.
We believe that God will provide blessings and miracles to fulfill His vision for Church of Pentecost and the city of Jacksonville.
We will work hard, and we will see God complete the work!
